NBC Universal racks up Downton Abbey sales

NBC Universal has shopped hit UK period drama Downton Abbey to a raft of broadcasters. NBCU said that since the show launched on ITV1 in the UK it has been picked up by over 100 international broadcasters.

Buyers of the show, which was a massive ratings hit in the UK, include Seven Network (Australia), DR (Denmark), Sky Deutschland (Germany), TVN (Poland), Antena 3 (Spain) and SVT (Sweden).

“The series has been embraced by broadcasters all over the world and continues to establish loyal viewer following with each new launch,” said Belinda Menendez, president, NBCUniversal International Television Distribution & Universal Networks International.

NBCU-owned producer Carnival Film & Television coproduces the series with Masterpiece and the second season of the show is in production.
