Discovery unveils programming line-up for 3D channel
A handful of original shows for the upcoming 3D TV channel from Discovery, Sony and Imax have been announced. The slate of shows, all of which will be produced in native 3D, include offerings about extreme sports, paranormal investigators and space exploration.
Two of the six shows announced are form UK indie Electric Sky Productions. It has sold High Octane, about extreme actions sports, and Making the Brand, an hour-long series about how products are produced on a mass scale.
Ghost Lab from Paper Route and Go Go Luckey Entertainment follows Brad and Barry Klinge, founders of the Everyday Paranormal ghost hunting group. A regular 2D version of the show already airs on the Discovery Channel. From Wild Eyes and Digital revolution Studios is Bullproof, a series about cowboys on the professional bull riding circuit.
There are also two shows from the affiliates of companies running the channel. There will be Sony Pictures’ animated movie Open Season and from Imax, Space Station, a space exploration one-off narrated by Tom Cruise.
The shows are in addition to those already announced for the channel including African Wild, China Revealed, Attack of the Giant Jellyfish and another Sony Pictures’ animated movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
The 3D channel will bow initially in the US and no international roll out has been announced although there has been speculation about a UK launch after Discovery obtained a license to operate a 3D channel in the UK from communications regulator Ofcom.
