Vice rejigs Viceland management
Vice has upped Derek Freda and Guy Slattery to co-presidents of its Viceland cable net, with Eddy Moretti stepping back into his previous role as chief creative officer.
Spike Jonze, like Moretti one of the founders of the hipster brand, will take on an expanded role under the new structure, becoming co-chief creative officer.
Freda (right) and Slattery (left) will run the Viceland net day-to-day. Both have been with the fledgling channel since its launch, as executive VP and general manager respectively.
Prior to Vice, Freda worked with Jonze on MTV series Jackass. Slattery joined Vice from the A+E channels group, which backs the Viceland channel in the US.
The Viceland net is now in the US, Canada, UK, France, Australia and New Zealand. Vice plans to have it in 50 territories by end-2017, with Viceland International boss and former Discovery EVP Jay Rosenstock overseeing the global growth.
Last month, Vice hired ex-Talpa Media exec Stefen Tieleman as general manager of Viceland Benelux ahead of the channel’s launch in the Netherlands and Belgium next month.
