Turner ups Quigley at cable nets
US cable channels provider Turner has promoted Michael Quigley to executive VP of commercial operations, content strategy and monetisation at TNT and TBS.
The new will see the former Turner Content Distribution executive overseeing content strategy for acquisitions, licensing and scheduling for the channels, plus acquisitions for other Turner brands.
Turner has been in hiring mode since the turn of the year, hiring former Core Media Group exec Jenny Ramirez as VP, unscripted programming and Karina Kogan as senior VP of digital media from Participant Media. It also bought BRaVe Ventures as part of a plan to develop new corporate and programming strategies for TBS and TNT back in November 2016.
TNT and TBS senior VP of content acquisition and strategy Valerie Meraz, VP of content commercialisation Jonathan Melber and VP of programming and scheduling Jeff Carr will report into Quigley, who will remain in Atlanta and report directly to Turner chief creative officer Kevin Reilly.
Quigley will also manage Turner’s Creative Council, which is comprised of brand leaders from across Reilly’s content team and explores and shares opportunities and collective challenges.
“Michael’s made a real mark at Turner driving strategy for the expansion of the Turner brands beyond the traditional television screen,” said Reilly. “He’s a terrific leader I know we can count on to both design and implement new value streams for our world-class channels and content going forward.”
Quigley was previously TCD’s SVP of brand distribution, working on partnerships with domestic US distributors such as Comcast, Sling TV, Altice USA, Sony and Google Fiber.
He has been with Turner since 2006 when he joined as VP, business development and multiplatform distribution. Before that he worked at DMX Music, overseeing distribution of the company’s Asia Pacific pay TV channels, and held roles at Liberty Digital and Turner parent Time Warner.
