eOne poaches Amazon Studios scripted exec
Entertainment One Television has bolstered its scripted ranks by drafting in Carolyn Newman from Amazon Studios.
Newman (pictured) has been named in the new role of VP, scripted programming at eOne TV.
Based out of LA, this will see her develop “bold and compelling” projects, working closely with eOne’s scripted teams around the world.
Newman will report to Pancho Mansfield, president of global scripted programming at eOne, who said: “Carolyn’s expertise, far-reaching relationships, and passion for standout TV will support the continued growth of our dynamic slate.”
At Amazon Studios, which is the production wing of Amazon Prime Video, Newman was point executive on series such as Bosch, Hand of God, Mad Dogs and the upcoming Good Girls Revolt.
She was also involved in sourcing and developing international projects for the studio. Before that, she was VP, development and production at Sphere Media, where she worked on Bell Media’s cop drama 19-2.
Newman’s is the first major personnel move Mansfield has made since joining in June 2015. He had previously worked at Fox Television Studios and was charged with “harmonising the creative executive” of eOne TV’s scripted output.
He had joined six months after Michael Rosenberg stepped down as executive VP, US scripted television.
Last month, TBI revealed eOne had hired former ITV studios distribution exec Toby Melling.
eOne TV’s Toronto-based parent, Entertainment One, is currently subject to intense speculation over its future, after it turned down a £1 billion (US$1.3 billion) offer from UK broadcaster ITV. Private equity firm KKR is also thought to be circling.
