ABC casting chief gets global programmes role
ABC Entertainment Group’s casting chief, Keli Lee, has been named managing director, international content and talent.
She will relocate to London from the Walt Disney Company-owned US broadcast group’s Burbank, California base following the promotion to the programming post.
In the role, she will work closely with ABC Studios executive VP Patrick Moran and EVP, comedy and international scripted development Samie Falvey to help the ABC Network and studio find new formats, writers, directors, actors and shows, plus will oversee ABC’s strategic interests around the world.
Lee is currently EVP, casting at ABC Entertainment, a role in which she has created the talent recruiting programme ABC Discovers, which has launched talent such as Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Randall Park (Fresh Off the Park) and Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy). She has overseen all talent and casting negotiations.
She is also well-connected with KOCCA, the Korean government agency that finances various international television projects.
In the new post, she will continue to report to ABC Entertainment president Paul Lee, with Ayo David becoming interim head of casting.
“Keli will play a critical role helping ABC identify new opportunities for talent and content around the world,” said Lee in a statement. “She has a keen eye and a proven track record when it comes to emerging talent.”
The promotion is effective immediately.
