Turner greenlights ‘biggest’ Korean toon copro
Turner Broadcasting System has greenlit its biggest Korean-made animation project for its kids channels in Asia and the EMEA region.
Synergy Media and Studio Goindol will coproduce Beat Monsters with Turner. The Korea Creative Content Agency is providing development assistance.
The comedy will be a 52x2mins short, with additional ‘micro-shorts’ also commissioned, with each episode combining live-action footage and CGI animation.
It will follow a group of alien monsters from outer space that search for the ultimate music beat.
Beat Monsters will likely air late in 2016 on Turner’s Asian kids channels Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Toonami and Cartoon Network EMEA.
“These fun and fresh shorts are exactly what we’re looking for as part of our International Shorts Programme,” said Mark Eyers, chief content officer for Turner’s kids networks in Asia Pacific.
“Turner has made a firm commitment to generating and supporting the production of original comedy animation right around the world – and we’re really pleased to find a likeminded and globally-focused partner in Korea. When it launches, Beat Monsters will deliver world-class laughs around the world from London to Lagos, and Madrid to Manila.”
Turner, which has commissioned local Asian shows through its ‘Shorts Programme’ for a number of years, is currently working studios and animators in Singapore, Taiwan, India, Australia, the US and Japan to create new short-form toons.
