Sky snags new Muppets show

UK network Sky has picked up The Muppets, the new ob-doc style show featuring the classic puppet characters.

The series will go out on broadcast net ABC in the US and was launched internationally at the LA Screenings in May where it created a buzz among buyers.

Sky has won the UK rights to the series and will put it out on its flagship Sky 1 channel. It did the deal with Disney Media Distribution, which sells the show globally.

TBI understands various British broadcasters have expressed interest in acquiring the series in recent months.

The new series is an Office-style comedy ob-doc, going behind the scenes as the Muppets pull together for a new run of their variety show.

It will follow the Muppets day-to-day lives with perennial favourites Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie and Gonzo all featuring. The Muppets is produced by ABC Studios and The Muppets Studio.

The Muppets was acquired for Sky by senior acquisitions manager Lucy Criddle.
