Extant to return as Murder is greenlit
CBS sci-fi drama Extant has been handed a second season, as rival ABC gives full-season orders to How to Get Away with Murder and Black-ish.
Extant took an average of 8.64 million viewers, and had support from its distribution on Amazon Prime Instant Video, which launch episodes four days after CBS and helped make the show profitable before launch.
Addtionally Under the Dome, the CBS drama that is the currently the US’s top summer show, has been renewed for a third season.
Meanwhile, ABC’s drama How to Get Away with Murder, which stars Viola Davis as a tough-talking law professor, and comedy Black-ish are the first new season shows to get full-season orders.
How to Get Away with Murder scored a massive 14 million viewers during its ‘Shonda Rhimes’ Thursday night slot, and the full season will run to 15 episodes.
Black-ish, meanwhile, scored 10.8 million on its debut, retaining the most viewers ever for a show following top-rated comedy Modern Family. It will run to 22 episodes.
