NATPE News: Sony inks Lat-Am deal for Idol

FremantleMedia Enterprises has inked a raft of programming deals with buyers in Latin America, including Sony, which has picked up American Idol.

The agreement sees Sony Pictures Entertainment buy season 12 of the music competition series. It has taken pan-regional rights for its pay TV networks in the region.

Other deals include Turner-owned cable channel Glitz ordering seasons 10 and 11 of fashion competition Project Runway.

Another Turner channel, TruTV, has picked up pan-regional rights to Auction Hunters.

Elsewhere, Fox’s lifestyle channel Fox Life has acquired Project Accessory and Jamie Oliver’s Dream School.

The Fox deal for Dream School excludes Brazil, where it has been licensed to Globosat.

FME also closed programming deals with free-to-air broadcasters in Latin America with Argentina’s Telefe buying gameshow Distraction and Cost Rica’s Teletica picking up Japanese-inspired physical gameshow Hole in the Wall.
