Chris Albrecht & Jorge Granier form Spanish-language firm Rubicon Global, strike Secuoya Studios deal
Former Legendary Television president and Starz CEO Chris Albrecht and Pongalo founder Jorge Granier have partnered to launch Rubicon Global Media, a new firm with a focus on producing Spanish-language content for the global market.
Rubicon plans to produce “story-driven” content for Latin American audiences by aggregating IP from Lat Am and Spain that it can market internationally.
The firm is launching with a strategic partnership with Secuoya Studios, part of Spanish producer and distributor Secuoya Content Group, which is led by former HBO exec James Costos.
As part of the multi-project deal, Madrid-based Secuoya Studios will provide development funding and deficit financing for certain Rubicon series and films.
The partnership reunites Albrecht and Costos, who previously worked together at HBO, where Costos served as VP of global licensing and retal, and Albrecht was CEO and chairman.
Granier, meanwhile, was the founder and CEO of LA-based AVOD firm Pongalo and served as exec producer on The CW series Jane The Virgin.
“There is an incredible opportunity for us to build an IP company that unites Latin America, Spain, and Hollywood. Partnering with Secuoya enables us to access world-class production infrastructure and offer talent unique global participation,” said Albrecht.
Granier added that: “Our mission is to showcase the rich Latin heritage while creating shows and films that transcend borders, unite cultures, and captivate audiences.”
Secuoya Studios has offices in Latin America, Miami, LA and Spain and said that it expects to invest more than $200m on content this year.
