The Mediapro Studio names Marta Ezpeleta as CEO

The Young Pope producer The Mediapro Studio has promoted Marta Ezpeleta to CEO, taking over from Laura Fernández Espeso, who was recently named as CEO of parent company Grup Mediapro.

Ezpeleta and Fernández Espeso will both commence their new roles on 1 January, 2025, with Javier Esteban in turn promoted to take on Ezpeleta’s current role as international director of The Mediapro Studio.

The incoming CEO joined The Mediapro Studio in 2019 as director of international distribution and co-productions, striking deal for Spanish-language titles including The Head and Paraíso.

In 2021, she was promoted to additionally manage the studio’s international offices in countries including the US, UK and Mexico.

Prior to The Mediapro Studio, Ezpeleta spent 20 years at Disney, starting as a member of the content and programming team at The Walt Disney Company, where she helped to launch Disney’s TV channels in Spain and Portugal, and went on to become general manager of distribution for the Iberian peninsula.

Esteban, meanwhile, joined The Mediapro Studio in 2019 as part of the distribution, coproduction and acquisitions team, having also previously worked for Disney.

Ezpeleta and Esteban’s new roles come just days after The Mediapro Studio hired Berlanti Productions alum Erika Kennair and Spoke Studios’ Pam Healey to leads its English-language content push.
