SVT links with SF Studios to adapt Astrid Lindgren’s ‘Life On Seacrow Island’
Swedish pubcaster SVT has linked with Denmark’s SF Studios and Beta Film Kids & Family to produce a new adaptation of Astrid Lindgren’s Life On Seacrow Island.
The six-part show will be titled Vi på Saltkråkan in Sweden and is being directed by Fredrik Edfeldt, with Karin Arrhenius attached as writer. Filming begins in Stockholm’s archipelago in June, with SF Studios coproducing with SVT, Film Stockholm and The Astrid Lindgren Company.
Beta Film’s Kids & Family handles international sales for the show, which will be released in Sweden on SVT and SVT Play in 2025.
The drama will take place in a contemporary setting and tells the story of children from two very different families: one is from the rural archipelago; and one is from the bustling city.
Their lives become intertwined on the island during a long and memorable summer, with the story seen mainly from the children’s perspective leading to “imaginative and dramatic adventures”.
SF Studios has produced a raft of Lindgren adaptations, including Pippi Longstocking, Ronia The Robber’s Daughter and Emil in Lönneberga. Recent family and children’s productions include JerryMaya’s Detective Agency film-series, Pelle No-Tail: The Bamse trilogy (2014-2018) and the Nelly Rapp film-series.
“This uplifting series is full of positivity, escapism, and nostalgia, faithfully adhering to its source material. Lindgren’s work is timeless and universal, resonating with audiences of all ages,” said Claudia Schmitt, head of kids & family entertainment at Beta Film.
