Sky takes on Colin Farrell-led ‘Batman’ spin-off ‘The Penguin’ for UK launch
Sky has picked up the UK rights to The Penguin, the spin-off series from Matt Reeves’ 2022 superhero film The Batman.
The eight-part series will debut in the UK on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW at the same time as it lands on Max in the US.
Hailing from by Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, the series sees Colin Farrell reprise his film role as gangster Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin.
Based on characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, The Penguin is produced by Reeves’ 6th & Idaho Productions and Dylan Clark Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Reeves and 6th & Idaho are under an overall deal.
Set one week after the events of The Batman, the show also stars Cristin Milioti, Clancy Brown and Rhenzy Feliz. Reeves returns to executive produce, alongside Farrell, Dylan Clark and Lauren LeFranc, who writes and serves as showrunner, Craig Zobel, who directs the first three episodes, Bill Carraro, and Daniel Pipski.
“The Penguin is an outstanding addition to our growing comic slate of films and series. With the grimy world of Gotham City amidst chaos, the story continues The Batman epic crime saga and I’m excited to see Farrell take this iconic character to new heights in this eight-part limited drama series,” said Lucy Criddle, Sky’s director of acquisitions and strategic projects.
