Disney+ orders first Central & Easter European original with crime drama ‘Breslau’

Disney+ has ordered a period drama from Poland, marking the streamer’s first original scripted series from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

The eight-parter is from ATM Grupa and production has begun, according to Deadline which broke the news.

Breslau (working title) is set in 1936 and tracks the work of a detective who is tasked with finding the perpetrator of a brutal murder.

The drama is based in Wroclaw, which is known as Breslau in German, and takes place ahead of the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.

Magdalena Cieslak, director of originals at Disney+ in CEE, described the show as “an important moment” for Disney+ in Poland, adding that it would “further expand the offer of productions intended for wider audiences.”

Disney+ has been shifting its programming strategy across Europe over the past 12 months and unveiled a raft of series in March, including a new soap opera from Spain.
