NBC preps Belgian format ‘Destination X’, ‘The Americas’ for 2025

Destination X

US broadcaster NBC will launch its remake of Belgian format Destination X and the second season of Banijay’s Deal Or No Deal Island as part of a midseason schedule in 2025, alongside BBC Studios show The Americas.

The Americas, described by NBC as a 10-part “tentpole event series”, is narrated by Tom Hanks and has music by Hans Zimmer, with a two-hour premiere slated for 23 February.

The show has been five years in the making and marks the first time North America and South America have been at the center of a wildlife documentary series, NBC said.

Destination X, which was commissioned alongside the BBC last year, was created by Geronimo and follows 10 contestants as they embark on the road trip of a lifetime but with no idea of their location. The US version is being produced by ITV Studios-owned Twofour and NBC sibling Universal Television Alternative Studio. Be Entertainment distributes the format.

NBC’s midseason will also include procedural drama The Hunting Party starring Melissa Roxburgh (Manifest) and the second season of Deal or No Deal Island.

The shows were confirmed as part of NBC’s fall schedule announcement, which will see three new series are set to premiere.

Drama Brilliant Minds stars Zachary Quinto and has been inspired by the true story of a larger-than-life neurologist, Oliver Wolf, and his team as they grapple with their own relationships.

St. Denis Medical, which is from co-creators Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin, is a mockumentary about an underfunded, understaffed Oregon hospital where the dedicated doctors and nurses try their best to treat patients while maintaining their own sanity, while Reba McEntire returns to comedy with multi-camera Happy’s Place, about a woman who inherits a bar.

All new series will stream next day on Peacock along with the rest of NBC’s entertainment lineup.

Other returning shows include Saturday Night Live, the 26th season of ITVS format The Voice, Fremantle’s America’s Got Talent and returning drama Chicago P.D.
