Prime Video adapts novel ‘The Girlfriend’ with Robin Wright to star & direct
Amazon’s Prime Video has ordered an adaptation of Michelle Frances’ The Girlfriend, with Robin Wright (House Of Cards) set to star and direct.
The show is being produced by Imaginarium Productions and Amazon MGM Studios, with Caroline Norris series producer and Jonathan Cavendish, Wright and Will Tennant among exec producers.
The story tracks a mother who mistrusts her son’s girlfriend and explores whether the woman is a manipulative social climber, or whether the mother is paranoid and possessive.
Gabbie Asher and Naomi Sheldon are lead writers, with Marek Horn, Ava Wong Davies, Isis Davis and Helen Kingston also attached, while Olivia Cooke (House Of The Dragon), Laurie Davidson (Mary And George) and Waleed Zuaiter (Gangs Of London) will star.
“The Girlfriend is a suspenseful family drama about the collapse of a mother and son’s bond, shown through relatable themes of love, greed, and power,” said Vernon Sanders, head of TV at Amazon MGM Studios.
“This series speaks directly to our pan-English strategy maintained by Rola Bauer and we’re thrilled to work with Imaginarium and Robin Wright in adapting Michelle Frances’ compelling story for our global Prime Video customers,” added Sanders.
The show will be available globally on Prime Video, which yesterday revealed a new Jessica Biel- and Elizabeth Banks-starring thriller from ITV Studios-backed Tomorrow Studios.
