ITV orders Double Jeopardy drama based on Ann Ming memoir
ITV has ordered an adaptation of Ann Ming’s memoir about the UK’s Double Jeopardy law, with Hera Pictures attached to produce.
I Fought The Law is to be a four-parter written by Jamie Crichton (All Creatures Great And Small), with Sheridan Smith (The Castaways) starring. All3Media International is distributing.
It will is based on Ming’s book For The Love Of Julie, which recounts how she fought the UK justice system for 15 years to ensure that the alleged murderer of her daughter would face trial following two controversial acquittals.
Ming is to be a consultant, with Hera Pictures’ founder Liza Marshall exec producing with Charlotte Webber. ITV’s drama chief Polly Hill ordered the show for ITV and streamer ITVX.
Filming will start in August in the north east of England, with North East Screen investing via the North East Production Fund.
