Telemundo appoints Mediapro exec Javier Pons as EVP of studio unit

Javier Pons

NBCUniversal’s Telemundo has hired Mediapro Studios exec Javier Pons amid a reshuffle at the Spanish-language operator.

Pons, who was most recently director of Mediapro’s Globomedia, will become EVP of Telemundo Studios with a remit across all scripted productions across the Hispanic company’s networks and streaming services.

He reports into Telemundo Enterprises chairman, Luis Fernanadez, who said the company was “supercharging” its scripted output.

Other changes will see content chief Ronald Day upped to become president of entertainment & chief content officer, with expanded responsibility across Telemundo Studios.

Pons previously worked with Fernandez at Spanish pubcaster RTVE more than a decade ago, where the Telemundo boss was CEO.

“With this streamlined structure, we are doubling down on our commitment to serve the Latino community with the best scripted content across all platforms for years to come,” Fernandez said.
