AMC hires Warner Bros. Discovery alum Antonio Ruiz to lead Southern Europe

AMC Networks International has hired former Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) exec Antonio Ruiz to oversee its business in Southern Europe.

Ruiz becomes managing director and EVP of AMC Networks International Southern Europe, with a remit across operations in Spain and Portugal.

He reports into AMC veteran Eduardo Zulueta, president of AMC Networks International.

Ruiz had overseen operations in Spain, France and Portugal for Discovery prior to its merger with WarnerMedia, subsequently taking up the general manager role for the UK and Ireland at WBD in August 2022.

He left that role less than a year later following an extensive overhaul at WBD that saw Andrew Georgiou taking control in the region.

Zulueta described Ruiz as “a proven executive” who “will be a formidable addition to our international team and a great leader for our Southern European division.”

AMC Networks International produces and distributes more than 30 pay-TV channels and streamers in Southern Europe from its Madrid HQ, ranging from AMC, Canal Hollywood and SundanceTV, to AMC Crime and AMC+.
