Channel operator Insight TV has partnered with Netherlands-based production company JOIIN and China Global Television Network (CGTN) on culinary docuseries Sweet Planet.

The six-part series takes viewers around the world to explore the culinary and cultural impact of sugar in cooking and food rituals.

It will premiere on CGTN on 29 March and is available across the Chinese broadcaster’s six channels across 68 languages, as well as on its streaming site CGTN Digital.

The series will also be available across Insight TV’s global channels, which are available in 56 countries, and is available for licensing.

Tim Ye, CEO of JOIIN, said the show “aims to build a bridge for cultural exchange through food; showcasing the charm of global multiculturalism.”

Rian Bester, CEO at Insight TV, added: “We have enjoyed a growing, cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship with CGTN over recent years, but Sweet Planet takes our partnership to the next level.

“This co-production marks the start of a recurring series format that we are confident will be well received in China and across CGTN’s international feeds, but also on Insight TV channels around the globe.”
