Amazon, Disney, Paramount & PCCW strike global deals for Boat Rocker sci-fi ‘Beacon 23’
Amazon, Paramount, Disney & PCCW Media Entertainment have all acquired season one of Boat Rocker’s Beacon 23 ahead of the US launch of season two of the sci-fi thriller.
The show, starring Lena Headey and Stephen James, will launch on Amazon streamer Prime Video in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Sub-Saharan Africa on 15 March. Paramount, meanwhile, has picked up the UK & Ireland rights for the show for its streaming service Paramount+ and UK broadcaster Channel 5.
Disney will show Beacon 23 on Star in Bulgaria and The Balkans, while PCCW Media Entertainment is adding it to the NowStudios VOD service in Hong Kong and Macau.
These deals for the eight-part first season come ahead of the launch of the second season of the show on MGM+ in the US on 7 April.
Based on the book by Hugh Howey, Beacon 23 takes place in the farthest reaches of the Milky Way and follows Aster (Lena Headey), a government agent, and Halan (Stephan James), a stoic ex-military man, whose fates become entangled after they find themselves trapped together inside one of many Beacons that serve as a lighthouse for intergalactic travelers.
“With an incredible cast and dazzling effects, the series is an original sci-fi psychological thriller of the highest order that grips viewers from the opening scene,” said Jon Rutherford, president, global rights, franchise, and content strategy, Boat Rocker Studios.
