Lionsgate plans ‘John Wick’ & ‘Twilight’ TV spin-offs
Lionsgate is preparing to expand two of its biggest movie franchises, John Wick and Twilight, on to the small screen, according to vice chairman Michael Burns.
Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Tech, Media and Telecom Conference this week, Burns revealed that Lionsgate is planning to create an animated series based on Twilight.
“I think there will be a lot of interest in that,” said the exec of the project which is being developed by Lionsgate Television.
Stephenie Meyers 2005 novel Twilight – and its subsequent sequels – about the love affair between teenager Bella Swan and vampire Edward Cullen, was previously adapted into a film series starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
Burns also revealed that Lionsgate plans to create a new TV series based on the Keanu Reeves-led John Wick action franchise, building upon the launch of prequel show The Continental: From The World of John Wick on Amazon streamer Prime Video last year.
“I think we will take one of our great action franchises starring Keanu Reeves; I think it’ll be a television series,” said Burns.
The exec also revealed that Lionsgate’s previously reported separation of its studio business from Starz is set to take place next month. Once done, the two companies will operate as separate publicly traded firms.
