Hulu Japan acquires Sony action-comedy ‘Twisted Metal’
Hulu Japan has acquired US vehicular action-comedy series Twisted Metal from Sony Pictures Television (SPT).
Written by Michael Jonathan Smith and hailing from SPT, Universal Television and Sony-owned PlayStation Productions, the series follows a smart-ass amnesiac milkman who hits the throttle as he faces an onslaught of savage vehicular combat while trying to deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
Anthony Mackie (The Falcon And The Winter Soldier) stars as John Doe, the milkman who talks as fast as he drives, alongside Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine Nine) and Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man: No Way Home). The series, which is based on the PlayStation game series, will launch on Hulu Japan on 22 February, with its acquisition following its recent recommission by US streamer Peacock for a second season.
The show has also previously sold to Stan (Australia), TVNZ+ (New Zealand), AXN (Korea), Coupang Play (Korea), Sony LIV (India), Paramount+ (Canada, UK), Max (CEE, Poland, Lat A,), Prime Video (South Africa, Benelux, Nordics), NOVA (Greece), and BeIN & TOD (MENA).
“We are thrilled to partner with Hulu Japan to bring this unique adaptation based on the iconic PlayStation game to audiences in Japan,” said Adam Herr, SVP of distribution, APAC, at SPT. “Twisted Metal has something for everyone… it combines high intensity action with laugh-out-loud moments that are entertaining and bingeworthy. This series has quickly become a fan-favorite across the world and we can’t wait for viewers in Japan to join in on the fun.”
