WBD networks pick up Prime Video flagship duo ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ & ‘The Grand Tour’
Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has picked up two of Amazon Prime Video’s flagship unscripted shows – The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm – for its linear networks in Europe.
The first two seasons of the shows, which are both fronted by Jeremy Clarkson, have been sold by Amazon MGM Studios Distribution, with The Grand Tour airing on Polish networks TTV and Metro.
The Grand Tour will also become available on TVN Turbo in Poland, while in Italy, the show will premiere on MotorTrend and Clarkson’s Farm will air on DMax.
Amazon revealed it would start selling its originals last year with the creation of Amazon MGM Studios Distribution, led by Chris Ottinger.
It is focused on distributing thousands of shows including The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Hunters, as well as titles acquired following its $8.45bn acquisition of MGM in 2021.
The sales arm was at MIPCOM in October with shows including Bosch Legacy and Hotel Cocaine, but the deal for The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm underline Amazon’s willingness to sell its most well-known, if ageing, Prime Video originals.
The Grand Tour – fronted by former Top Gear trio Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May – was among Prime Video’s early originals when it debuted in 2016, running across five seasons with a final episode set to air later this year.
Clarkson’s Farm, meanwhile, is returning for a fourth season despite the presenter’s remark about Meghan Markle, which sparked rumours that the show would be cancelled.
Myriam Lopez-Otazu, WBD EMEA’s group VP of content, said: “These shows have all the attributes to capture the hearts of the public, and we are delighted to be able to include them as part of our offering across different brands and markets.
“We are continually looking at licensing the best content for our networks and the diverse and entertaining unscripted line-up reflects our commitment to providing variety and quality content that resonates with our viewers.”
WBD has also picked up six other unscripted series for its linear networks in Europe, including the The Repair Shop Australia and Teen First Dates, both produced by Warner Bros. International Television Production-owned companies.
The Repair Shop Australia will air on FTA and pay TV networks in UK, Norway, Italy and Central Europe. Teen First Dates will play on FTA and pay TV networks in Norway and Italy.
Other shows acquired by WBD include: Jungle Dads, from WBITVP’s Twenty Twenty; Prospero Productions’ Outback Crystal Hunters; My Strange Addiction: Still Addicted from Exit Four TV; and Gem Hunters Down Under, from Wildbear Entertainment.
