Telecinco & Netflix’s Spanish drama ‘Unauthorized Living’ to be remade in Turkey

Turkish channel TV8 is remaking Spanish drama Vivir Sin Permiso (aka Unauthorized Living), marking the second international adaption of the scripted format.

The Turkish adaptation will be known as Yetkisiz (working title) and is being produced by Acunmedya, following a deal with rights holder Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group.

The Spanish firm retains distribution rights to the new adaptation outside of Turkey, with the story again tracking the life of a criminal posing a businessman who attempts to choose a successor after finding out he has Alzheimer’s disease.

Unauthorized Living became one of Spain’s most-watched series in 2018 following its debut on Telecinco and subsequently attracted a global audience via a second window on Netflix.

Turkish writer Gokhan Horzum (Cukur – The Pit) is attached on the Turkish remake alonsgide director Volkan Kocaturk, with executive producer Esat Yontunç overseeing the adaptation process.

Yetkisiz marks the second adaptation of Unauthorized Living following an Italian version that debuted on Canale 5 in 2022, under the name Il Patriarca. It was produced by CamFilm.

The Spanish original has also been sold to the MBC Group in MENA, TNU channel in Uruguay, Dori TLV channels in Israel, Media Vizhion in Albania, and Dexin Films for broadcasting in CEE.
