‘MasterChef’ hits 70 territory milestone following latest European deals
Banijay’s culinary format MasterChef is set to hit 70 territories after deals for local versions were struck in Serbia and Malta.
Serbian broadcaster TV Prva’s version will air later this month, while PBS-owned TVM in Malta will launch a new adaptation of the format in February, with local prodco Greatt attached.
Both agreements were brokered by Banijay’s global distribution arm, Banijay Rights.
Claire Jago, EVP of sales & acquisitions for EMEA at Banijay Rights, said: “To reach 70 territory commissions is a significant milestone for us at Banijay and we’re incredibly proud this world-beating format continues to grow its influence worldwide.”
MasterChef was created by Franc Roddam and first aired in 1990, since when it has been remade in countries ranging from the US and the UK, to Portugal and Brazil. It has also spawned eight spin-offs including the latest entrant MasterChef: Dessert Masters, which launched in Australia last month.
