HBO returns to ‘The Jinx’ eight years on from docuseries that led to arrest of Robert Durst

The Jinx: The Life And Deaths Of Robert Durst

HBO has ordered a second season of its docuseries The Jinx: The Life And Deaths Of Robert Durst, more than eight years after the first instalment.

The second, six-part season is currently in production and expected to debut on Warner Bros. Discovery-owned HBO in 2024, continuing the investigation that first aired in 2015. Director Andrew Jarecki and exec producer Zac Stuart-Pontier will return to helm the project, which is being produced by Hit The Ground Running, with Kyle Martin also exec producing.

Season one investigated suspicions that New York real estate heir Robert Durst had murdered his friend Susan Berman – with Durst ultimately arrested for the crime the day before the series finale aired after the production team uncovered new incriminating evidence and later recorded what appeared to be an accidental confession from Durst.

This follow-up details Jarecki’s continued investigation over the past eight years – and following Durst’s death in 2022 – and uncovers more previously hidden evidence, including Durst’s prison phone calls.

Charlotte Kaufman and Sam Neave will produce, alongside co-producers Richard Hankin and Susan Lazarus, and Nancy Abraham, Lisa Heller and Sara Rodriguez who are exec producing for HBO.

In related news, HBO has shared updates about a number of series, including fantasy drama House Of The Dragon, which is currently in post-production and will air in early 2024.

Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, the show’s sibling Game Of Thrones spin-off, is expected to begin filming in spring, according to HBO chief Casey Bloys, revealing details at a recent press event.

Post-apocalyptic drama The Last Of Us will meanwhile head into production next year with an expected 2025 debut, contingent upon the SAG-AFRTA strike being resolved, while the third seasons of The White Lotus and Euphoria have both also been pushed back to 2025.
