German kids’ entertainment firm Studio 100 Media has acquired a stake in Spanish animation house 3 Doubles Producciones.

Studio 100 Media and Santa Cruz de Tenerife-based 3 Doubles have previously partnered on several projects, including the feature films Giants Of La Mancha and Mia And Me: The Hero of Centopia. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In partnership with LA-based Viva Kids, which also acquired a stake in 3 Doubles earlier this year, the three companies plan to produce new movies and series together, which will be distributed by Studio 100 Media internationally whilst Viva Pictures is set to take on the North American movie distribution.

“This acquisition is an important next step for the expansion of Studio 100 Media’s European slate of animated series and movies,” said Studio 100 Media’s CEO, Martin Krieger.

In June, Studio 100 Media forged a first-look co-production and distribution partnership with France’s Gaumont Animation that will see the two firms team up to bring animated, kids and family TV series and film content to global audiences. The first co-production from the arrangement is animated series Ash, made in collaboration with Bigchild Entertainment, and is the first of several projects expected to enter development this year.
