The European Writers Club (EWC) has launched a new strand to its fast-expanding array of scripted-focused initatives, this time looking to partner journalists, scientists and documenatarists with storytellers.

Boosting Impact: From Facts To Fiction aims to increase collaboration between screenwriters and those in other professions who believe they have a story to tell, with the objective to create societally significant and engaging stories rooted in actual events.

Six concepts in early development will be selected and projects should be based on, or inspired by, researched true events. Stories should offer something new or reveal previously unknown aspects of a topic, while also having an impact on a wide European audience.

Camps will take place in Hamburg in April, Madrid in June and Copenhagen in September.

EWC, which is headed by Copenhagen Film Fund’s former CEO Thomas Gammeltoft, will assist the teams of writers, journalists, documentarists and producers to refine, develop and boost their concepts in collaboration with the organisation’s network of consultant writers, broadcasters and distributors.

Applications are open now until 31 December and criteria include:

  • The writer or the producer shall apply on behalf of the concept team of producer, journalist, scientist, etc
  • The concept team should be comprised of a creator/writer, a producer, and a journalist, scientist, or documentarist whose research the story will be based upon or inspired by. The writer and journalist, scientist or documentarist cannot be the same person
  • The applying creator/writer shall have at least one creator’s credit or have written a min. of two episodes on a TV show aired in a min. of two countries
  • Only European Union citizens are eligible to apply
  • All writers and journalists, scientists, documentarists selected will receive a participation grant
