BET+ & Prime Video bring UK series ‘Blue Therapy’ to US & Africa
BET+ in the US and Prime Video Africa have both acquired upcoming UK relationship reality series In Love & Toxic: Blue Therapy.
Produced by Luti Media and Trend Centrl for Channel 4’s FTA chanel E4, where it will launch on 5 October, the series is based on the Blue Therapy YouTube series which launched in 2021.
In Love & Toxic: Blue Therapy has been commissioned for a full six-part series for E4, to explore the complex modern relationships of five young, diverse and aspirational couples. Set in a luxurious country house, the couples meet with relationship coaches to face up to the conflicts in their partnerships surrounding topics including race and interracial relationships, class, children, careers and gender role expectations.
The original YouTube series averaged over two million views per episode, across 15 territories, including UK, US, The Netherlands, Canada, Nigeria, Australia and South Africa.
The E4 series was commissioned as part of Channel 4 and Motion Content Group’s Diverse Indies Fund, to boost commissions from small and medium sized ethnically diverse-led production companies.
Luti Media will produce the series with Trend Centrl and Motion Content Group. Distributor All3Media International will also handle format rights for Blue Therapy.
“In Love & Toxic: Blue Therapy represents everything Luti Media is – bold, aspirational and innovative. The original Blue Therapy YouTube series was a global online sensation and demonstrated the international appeal of stories from black British culture,” said Luti Fagbenle, executive producer on the series.
