Asian streamers and FTA platforms, including Taiwan’s FriDay Video and China’s Youku, have picked up Mandarin-language sci-fi series Venus On Mars.

Launching tomorrow, 28 September, the series will also debut on Taiwan’s Hami Video, Singapore’s Singtel TV GO and CAST.sg, Cambodia’s PNN TV and PNN Plus.

The show, which was co-developed and co-created in a multi-title partnership struck by CJ ENM Hong Kong and Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority, hails from Mocha Chai Laboratories. CJ ENM Hong Kong is distributing the series globally.

It is a six-part high-concept sci-fi romcom about an undergraduate student, Julia, who is accidentally transported into a parallel world where there are only men – meaning she is the only female.

Tsao Yu Ning and Ivy Shao head the cast of the series, which also stars Wes Lo from Taiwanese boy band SpeXial, and Renzo Liu, Gina Lim and Wong Jinglun.

The series is produced by Mocha Chai Laboratories’ managing partner, Michelle Chang, with Singaporean filmmaker Chai Yee Wei as director. Producers at CJ ENM Korea acted as script consultants.

Venus On Mars was shot in Taiwan in collaboration with Taiwanese producer Phil Tang (Monomyth Films) and written by writer Huang Yu Chia.
