UK unscripted indie Middlechild Productions has appointed Gursharan Singh Nijjar as head of factual.

He will work across factual productions for Middlechild and its Northern Child office in Newcastle, with a focus on returning series, having previously served as the series producer on Middlechild’s Channel 5 show Coastguard: Every Second Counts, which has been renewed for a second season in early 2024.

Before Middlechild, he was a series producer-director on Forensics: The Real CSI, a senior gallery producer on 24 Hours In A&E, and series director on The Cotswolds With Pam Ayres. He has also served as producer and director on shows including Ambulance, Devon & Cornwall, Gardeners’ World and The Great Pottery Throwdown.

“Despite all the challenges in the industry, we’ve had a really positive couple of years, and we’ve been looking for someone to help capitalise on that growth. As soon as I started working with Gursh, and hearing his ideas and ambition, I knew we’d found someone who can take us to the next level,” said Middlechild MD David Sumnall.

David and the rest of the team are not only welcoming but strive for ambition and excellence across all levels of production, something we all crave for in the industry,” added Singh Nijjar.

Middlechild, which is also behind titles such as Jo Brand’s Kitten Rescue and The Dog Rescuers, split off its advertising arm, earlier this year, rebranding the division as Friday’s Child, which works with agencies and charities to “tell important stories to the public.”
