Disney+ kicks off ‘Adidas vs. Puma’ docuseries from David Beckham’s Studio99
Disney+ UK has commissioned World War Shoe: Adidas vs. Puma (working title) a new docuseries about the rivalry between the two sporting brands.
Through unprecedented access to both companies, the series will uncover the tale of two feuding brothers – Adi and Rudi Dassler – whose multi-decade rivalry and competition helped shape the modern sportswear industry.
The three-part series is being produced by Boat Rocker-owned Matador Content (Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields) and David Beckham’s Studio 99 (Fever Pitch).
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival today, Disney+ director of unscripted for original productions in EMEA, Sean Doyle, shared details about the upcoming series, which he said: “The thing that really intrigued me about it wasn’t necessarily the history, but actually that access to both these two massive global sporting brands.”
Some of the biggest sports stars in the world including, Usain Bolt, Neymar and Zinedine Zidane, are participating in the docuseries, alongside some of the biggest names in fashion, including June Ambrose and KidSuper.
The Disney+ panel at the festival also included first look footage of other upcoming UK factual originals for the streaming service, such as In Vogue, Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story and Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story, featuring Hollywood star Keanu Reeves.
