BBC returns to ‘Showtrial’ from ‘Vigil’ & ‘Bodyguard’ outfit World Productions
The BBC has ordered a second season of World Productions drama Showtrial, this time revolving around the death of high-profile climate activist.
The 5 x 60-minute series is again being written by Ben Richards, who was behind the first season’s story that tracked a murder trial in the UK.
The second run will also centre around a hotly contested criminal trial that divides the nation and takes place in the full glare of the media spotlight, this time exploring what happens when a climate activist involved in a hit and run accident uses his last words to name identify a policeman as his killer.
Adeel Akhtar (Sherwood), Nathalie Armin (Home) and Michael Socha (Chernobyl) star, with Julia Ford (Everything I Know About Love) attached to direct and Ken Horn (Line of Duty) producing.
Executive producers are Simon Heath and Emma Luffingham for ITV Studios-owned World Productions, with Nawfal Faizullah for the BBC.
ITVS handles international distribution, with filming taking place in November in Belfast.
