Sweden’s SVT expands Eva Beckman content role, Jan Helin & Andreas Bedinger to exit
Swedish pubcaster SVT has reshuffled its senior content team with Eva Beckman named programme director, replacing Jan Helin who is joining Nordic media giant Bonnier Group.
Beckman was most recently programme director with a focus on drama, film, entertainment, lifestyle, culture, factual and children’s, but she will now oversee all content including documentaries and minority.
Andreas Bedinger, director of programming, is also leaving the Swedish broadcaster to join a Stockholm-based real estate firm, meaning it has been 15 years since the broadcaster had a single exec overseeing all programming.
“Eva Beckman has deep experience in both television production and the unique mission of public services. She has an unfailing sense of how to create indispensable television for everyone in Sweden. Now she will be responsible for all of SVT’s programmes and I can’t imagine a better program director,” said SVT chief, Hanna Stjärne.
Beckman added: “SVT’s offer must be brave, innovative and have a breadth so that everyone in Sweden will find something that appeals to them. The assignment feels fun and honorable and I won’t be alone with the task of creating the very best offer for the audience. If there’s one thing SVT has, it’s extremely talented programmers.”
A replacement for Bedinger, who had been with SVT for two decades and will leave early next year, is currently being sought.
