WGA & AMPTP to return to negotiating table
The WGA (The Writers’ Guild of America) and AMPTP (The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) are returning to the negotiating table, with the writers’ guild confirming in a note to members that talks are to reopen on Friday.
The WGA has been on strike since 2 May, seeking fairness around residuals on shorter seasons, regulation of AI and shrinking writers room sizes.
Their strike was followed by action from SAG-AFTRA, with the actor’s union also halting work last month, bringing Hollywood productions to a standstill.
“The AMPTP, through [its president] Carol Lombardini, reached out to the WGA today and requested a meeting this Friday to discuss negotiations,” said a note to WGA members from its negotiating committee.
“We’ll be back in communication with you sometime after the meeting with further information. As we’ve said before, be wary of rumors. Whenever there is important news to share, you will hear it directly from us.”
A report in May from ratings agency Moody’s suggested that US studios could face cost increases of up to $600m a year as a result of the writers’ strike, meaning price rises for buyers of US shows as a consequence.
