Turkish drama ‘Magnificent Century’ enters the metaverse
Turkish drama series Muhteşem Yüzyıl (aka Magnificent Century) is to enter the metaverse, following a partnership with virtual world The Sandbox.
Produced by Tims Productions’ founder Timur Savci, and broadcast in more than 140 countries since its launch in 2021, the hit Turkish series is based on the life of the tenth Ottoman Sultan, Suleiman the Magnificent, and his wife Sultana Hurrem, a slave who rose to become a queen.
The show has partnered with metaverse platform The Sandbox to give audiences the chance to virtually explore the locations from the show, while transforming its characters into digital avatars. A “multitude of events” are also planned to take place within the platform based around the show.
The Sandbox will also create NFT and avatar collections around Magnificent Century for fans to be able to customize their digital characters.
Timur Savcı, the producer of Magnificent Century, said: “We are delighted to collaborate with The Sandbox team in this exciting adventure. Magnificent Century has been a global TV milestone breaking many records and now, by bringing it into the world of gaming through this partnership, we continue to prioritise innovation.”
The Sandbox is a subsidiary of Animoca Brands. Other virtual world partners include Warner Music Group, Ubisoft, The Rabbids, Cut the Rope, Tony Hawk, Gucci Vault, The Walking Dead, Invincible, Snoop Dogg, Adidas, Deadmau5, Steve Aoki, SM Entertainment, The Smurfs, Care Bears, and Atari.
