Maria Ines Rodriguez, VP of acquisitions & programming at TelevisaUnivision’s Spanish-language streamer ViX, is stepping down, TBI understands.

Rodriguez had been in the role for almost three years and worked across content deals for the streamer, which was rolled out in the US, Mexico and most of Latin America last year, following the $4.8bn merger between Televisa and Univision.

The exec, whose next move is not yet known, arrived at TelevisaUnivision in 2021 having spent a year at Viaplay as its interim head of content partnerships & distribution.

That followed a two-year spell at Disney, where she was SVP of content sales & media distribution.

Rodriguez had joined the Mouse House after its 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox, where she had been for five years and held roles including VP of worldwide pay TV & SVOD. Prior to that, she worked for Disney streamer Hulu.

A replacement is not yet known, but ViX’s senior acquisitions team includes former Netflix exec Augusto Rovegno, who also joined in 2021 as SVP of acquisitions & SVOD programming.

TelevisaUnivision launched ViX, which it touts as the world’s biggest Spanish-language streamer, in July 2022 and now offers around 75,000 hours of programming from the Univision and Televisa libraries, as well as 100 streaming channels.

It launched with an array of originals such as Mujeres Asesinas, La Mujer Del Diablo and Maria Felix, and is also home to shows such as hit series Ana.

Earlier this year, it bolstered its originals offering by ordering seven titles including an animation series from Sofia Vergara and a feature-length drama exec produced by Benicio Del Toro.

Most recently, it struck an agreement with RCN that will see the Colombian broadcaster’s shows, including hits such as Ana De Nadie and new series Tía Alison, become available on ViX the day after RCN airs them. Programming will premiere outside Colombia at the same time as on RCN, as ViX originals.

TelevisaUnivision declined to comment on today’s news.
