ABC Signature president Jonnie Davis stepping down
Jonnie Davis is stepping down as president of Disney-owned ABC Signature.
Davis took on his current role in 2019, after moving to ABC Signature from 20th Television, where he had served as president of creative affairs, following Disney’s $71.3bn acquisition of Fox assets.
His departure was revealed in two memos to staff, one from Davis himself and the other from Eric Schrier, president of Disney Television Studios and global original television strategy.
The company is now searching for a replacement for Davis and it is understood that there are no plans to merge ABC Signature and 20th Television, with both to continue to operate independently, despite previous rumours to the contrary.
During his tenure, Davis has overseen projects including Disney+ series The Muppets Mayhem, Godfather Of Harlem for MGM+ and Hulu shows Little Fires Everywhere and Tiny Beautiful Things.
He originally joined 20th Televison (then 20th Century Fox) in 2008 as SVP of comedy development, working on shows including ABC’s Modern Family and NBC’s This Is Us. Before that, Davis was VP of comedy development at Fox.
In his memo, Davis wrote: “It has been a privilege to work alongside all of you to deliver some of the most acclaimed and celebrated shows, like ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, FX’s Fleishman Is In Trouble and Hulu’s This Fool, to name just a few, that captivate, inspire and reflect the audiences that we so proudly serve every day.”
Schrier, meanwhile, wrote that: “Not only has Jonnie been an incredibly valued colleague, he has also served as a fantastic creative partner, collaborator and friend to so many.”
