C4 unveils raft of shows, incl Kabul airport doc & ‘Partygate’ docudrama

Channel 4 in the UK has unveiled a slate of new shows, including a a show about the evacuation of Kabul airport in 2021 and a docudrama about the political scandal that cost Boris Johnson his premiership.

Wonderhood Studios is behind three-parter Evacuation, which explores the British military campaign to evacuate Kabul airport through “raw, intimate testimony” from servicemen and women who found themselves at the epicentre of an unfolding crisis.

Partygate: The True Story (working title) is being produced by Killed By My Debt firm Halcyons Heart and takes viewers inside Number 10 as staff partied while the Covid death toll soared and the country diligently observed lockdown restrictions.

Also announced was Depp V Heard (w/t), a three-part series from Fulwell 73’s Bitachon365 and Empress Films, which examines the infamous defamation trial that captured the world’s attention and became a global media event.

UK presenter Davina McCall is behind Fine Stripe’s The Pill (w/t), which explores the state of contraception in the UK, while The Garden’s extreme survival Alone was also confirmed.

The shows, unveiled at an event in London today, are part of the C4’s attempt to secure younger viewers, following its recently launched Channel 4.0 platform, which is aimed at youth content.

Other new commissions include: Gender Wars; Secrets of the Female Orgasm; Andrew: The Problem Prince (w/t); A Paedophile In My Family: Surviving Dad (w/t); Untold – Series 2; Amputating Alice; and Adam Hills: Grow Another Foot.
