MIPTV deals round-up: Five deals for ‘The Traitors’; Sky buys ‘The Swarm’ & ‘The Ark’; ‘The A-Talks’ travels

‘The Traitors’ strikes five new deals

Fast-travelling format The Traitors is to be remade in five more countries.

The show, sold by All3Media International and created by IDTV, has been picked up in Greece by Ant1 channel, with Silverline Media Productions set to produce.

Hungarian broadcaster RTL has also commissioned a local version and in Israel The Traitors has been commissioned by Keshet with Fremantle’s Abot Hameiri producing.

A Swedish version has also been ordered, with broadcaster details not confirmed. A fifth deal has also been confirmed, but details not revealed.

The format has already sold to RTL in Germany, the BBC in the UK and most recently SIC in Portugal, where it launched on 9 April.

Sky UK buys The Swarm & The Ark

Sky in the UK has bought Syfy series The Ark and German drama The Swarm.

The Ark acquisition follows a deal with LA-based producer and distributor Electric Entertainment, which includes all pay-TV rights.

The 12-episode show takes place 100 years in the future and follows space ship attempting to achieve it ambition of planetary colonisation.

Sky and Movistar+ in Spain have become the latest networks to pick up The Swarm, with a US deal “in the final stages” according to distributors Beta Film and ZDF Studios.

The eco-thriller debuted in Germany on ZDF and Austria’s ORF, with copro deals already struck with Hulu in Japan, on Viaplay Group in Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, on Italy’s Rai, France Televisions and on Swiss’ SRF.

The show is from Game Of Thrones executive producer Frank Doelger and NDF IP’s chief Eric Welbers. It is based on Frank Schätzing’s novel and chronicles the struggle of humankind against an unknown enemy that lives in the depths of the sea.

The eight-hour series is produced by Schwarm TV Productions, a joint venture between Intaglio Films and ndF IP for ZDF, France Télévisions, Rai Fiction, Viaplay Group, Hulu Japan, ORF, SRF, in co-production with Bravado Fiction and Beside Production.

TVN in Poland welcomes The A Talks

TVN in Poland has picked up a local version of French format The A Talks (aka Les Rencontres Du Papotin).

The order follows a raft of options signed by distributor Can’t Stop, which include Warner Bros International TV Production (WBITVP) in Flemish Belgium and the Netherlands.

Fremantle has optioned the format in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland; Banijay has struck a deal in Spain and Israel; Ballandi snagged the option in Italy, Seapoint in Germany, Avanti in Quebec, Rockerdale Studios in the UK, Mark Fennessy’s Helium in Australia and Kite Entertainment in Ireland.

The format, which was created by Quad+Ten and Kiosco TV, sees a celebrity interviewed by a group of 30 atypical journalists with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).

It debuted on France 2 and has counted president Emmanuel Macron among those interviewed.
