Gaumont has hired Sky Deutschland executive Quirin Schmidt to work across its series and film output.
Schmidt joins this month having previously worked with the French company on Sky original Die Wespe (The Wasp).
During his time at Sky, Schmidt was focused on expanding its original slate and worked on shows including crime series Der Pass and thriller Hausen.
His remit at Gaumont includes overseeing development and production of new series and films.
Sabine de Mardt, Gaumont MD, said working with Schmidt had “shown us that he is exactly the right producer for our team.”
De Mardt added: “We are convinced that Quirin with his creativity, his flair for extraordinary stories and his broad network in the industry will make a significant contribution to realising our ambitious goals and setting new milestones together.”
Schmidt said: “At a time when our industry is facing new tasks and challenges, I could not wish for a more exciting environment to tell stories together with my colleagues are meaningful and challenge and entertain our audience in a positive way.”
Elke Walthelm, EVP of content at Sky Deutschland, said Schmidt had made a “decisive contribution” to the company’s originals expansion and said the company would be “following his future productions with great interest.”
