Buzzfeed & Frederator Network ink first-look animation deal
Buzzfeed has inked a first-look content deal with US-based kids content company Genius Brands International’s animation and pop culture-driven Frederator Network.
Under the agreement, Frederator Network, which was acquired by Genius Brands International as part of its 2021 deal for Canadian prodco Wow! Unlimited Media, will have the first right to develop and produce long-form series based on short-form animated content created by BuzzFeed Animation Lab.
The first title for series development by Frederator under the deal will be buddy comedy The Land Of Boggs, a comedy about two best friends wreaking havoc on their hometown of Boggville during summer vacation.
Other titles under consideration for a move to long-form include The Good Advice Cupcake, Weird Helga and Chikn Nuggit.
Frederator Studios will serve as the global content sales agent, headed by director of development Isabel Schultz.
Michael Hirsh, CEO of WOW! Unlimited Media, said that the partnership with BuzzFeed “offers Frederator a tremendous opportunity to expand on the creativity of their animation lab to further develop their original IP into long-form series for global audiences.”
Zee Myers, head of BuzzFeed Animation Lab, added that Frederator Studios is “the perfect shepherds to take our animated properties into a new format and expand our audience.”
