Apple TV+ reunites ‘Black Bird’ team for podcast-inspired drama ‘Firebug’
Apple TV+ has ordered Firebug a new drama series starring and executive produced by Taron Egerton that reunites the team behind the limited drama Black Bird.
Hailing from creator Dennis Lehane and produced by Apple Studios, the series will also see the return of exec producers Richard Plepler for Eden Productions, Kary Antholis for Crime Story Media and Bradley Thomas and Dan Friedkin for Imperative Entertainment.
Inspired by real events, Firebug will follow a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator (Egerton) as they pursue the trails of two serial arsonists.
The series is inspired by some of the events presented in Truth Media’s Firebug podcast, which was hosted by Antholis. Marc Smerling serves as executive producer for Truth Podcasting Corp.
The new series marks the latest collaboration for Egerton, Lehane, Plepler, Antholis and Thomas following Black Bird, which is available globally on Apple TV+.
Firebug is also the fourth project hailing from Apple Studios and produced by Imperative Entertainment, joining Black Bird, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Killers Of The Flower Moon, and the recently announced The Wager, an adaptation of David Grann’s new book being developed by Sikelia Productions.
