BritBox Int’l hires ViacomCBS & Hulu alum to lead US, Canada operations
ITV Studios and BBC Studios joint venture streamer BritBox International has named a former ViacomCBS and Hulu exec to oversee its operations in the US and Canada.
Robert Schildhouse becomes EVP of North America, and GM of group marketing services, at BritBox and will attempt to “drive ambitious market growth” for the service on the continent.
He reports into Reemah Sakaan, CEO at BritBox International, and will be based in New York.
Schildhouse has worked in streaming for the past 15 years, joining Hulu prior to its launch in 2008 and later leading its content acquisition strategy where he worked with studios, networks and global rights holders in the then-nascent AVOD and SVOD market.
He later moved to CBS Global Distribution Group as SVP of digital licensing & distribution, rising to EVP, and taking ownership of monetising the rights of the CBS and Showtime libraries to the streaming marketplace. Schildhouse was latterly EVP of business development, where he was responsible for the strategy to expand CBS’s global footprint.
Sakaan said Schildhouse “will bring his proven expertise in leading innovative streaming and content businesses to our organisation.”
BritBox, which costs $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year, has been expanding steadily, with a launch earlier this year in the Nordics. Its originals have also been growing, with shows such as Stonehouse, Beyond Paradise, Three Little Birds, The Confessions of Frannie Langton and Archie.
