Endemol Shine gets ‘Younger’ in China
Endemol Shine China is to produce a local version of the TV Land drama Younger.
Produced in association with Huace Group, Endemol Shine China is to deliver a 40 x 45-minute Mandarin-language adaptation of the Darren Star-created US show, which follows a woman who lies about her age to get ahead in the cut-throat world of publishing.
The Chinese deal marks the second Asian adaptation of the scripted format, which is being remade in Korea via a deal with JTBC Content Hub.
Produced by TV Land, Younger is written and exec produced by Star and stars Sutton Foster and Hilary Duff. The show aired across five series on TV Land, but has moved to Paramount Network for its sixth series, which is expected to premiere this summer.
William Tan, MD of Endemol Shine China, said: “Huace Group is the ideal partner for us to recreate this light-hearted series with and we can’t wait to bring to viewers what we believe could be China’s latest comedy hit.
“Younger is a fantastic addition to Endemol Shine China’s localised scripted slate, which includes Humans and Broadchurch, and we are proud to provide high-quality content and talent which sets up the bridge between our two different cultures.”
Cecilia Zhu, VP of international business for Huace Group, added: “This is a co-operation between two top global industry players where high-profile talent will work closely together to create a fun representation of the professional and personal lives of young people in China, reflecting their views and the realities of modern life. We look forward to creating a classic series via this co-operation.”
