Spun Gold secures true crime commissions from UK’s 5STAR
UK producer Spun Gold Television has won a raft of crime commissions from 5STAR, part of broadcaster Channel 5’s family of channels.
Key titles include Killed on Camera (1×60), which tells the story of a family’s quest to find out how a snuff movie fantasist, known to the police, was able to murder a 17 year-old girl.
Other hard-hitting singles include Murdered By My Stalker, a stalking investigation which features the killing of Alice Ruggles, whose ex-boyfriend became obsessed with her after she called off their relationship.
Further one-offs include Stabbed in the Back and Murdered By My Girlfriend, the latter exploring three cases where women have been convicted of killing the men in their lives.
Spun Gold managing director Daniela Neumann said: “There’s a huge demand for crime and investigation programming, and it’s a genre were focused on growing as we build Spun Gold’s slate.”
These latest commissions come as Spun Gold’s new series When Teens Kill (4×60’) airs on 5STAR. Presented by Aaron Roach Bridgeman, the series explores teenagers convicted of murder or manslaughter. Using testimonies from families, friends, police detectives, lawyers, journalists, and other experts, the series explores the issues that can lead a teenager to take another person’s life.
