FilmRise acquires SVOD rights to classic CHiPs series

Distribution and streaming company FilmRise has acquired the exclusive US SVOD rights to the classic television crime drama CHiPs from Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.

According to FilmRise the series, which stars Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox, will be made available on Amazon Prime Video, through its Prime Video Direct self-service programme. Commenting, FilmRise CEO Danny Fisher said: “We are thrilled to have concluded a deal with Warner Bros. to bring this television favourite to Amazon’s Prime Video audience. The show is a perfect fit for Prime Video, which boasts an ever-expanding catalogue of classic film and TV.”

A mainstay of NBC’s primetime line-up, CHiPs ran for six seasons between 1977 and 1983. The franchise, which focuses on a pair of California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers, also got a movie reboot in 2017 (though this is separate from the FilmRise deal).

Max Einhorn, VP of acquisitions at FilmRise, negotiated the deal for FilmRise. CHiPs is the latest in a series of classic titles acquired by FilmRise. Others include Hell’s Kitchen and 3rd Rock from the Sun.
