HBO to dramatise Trump election
HBO is turning the unexpected election of Donald Trump as US president last year into a miniseries.
Jay Roach, who directed HBO one-off drama about the 2008 election Game Change, will return for the as-yet-unnamed mini, which is based on source material from a Mark Halperin and John Heilemann book that Penguin Press is soon publishing.
Actor Tom Hanks and his production partner at prodco Playtone, Gary Goetzman, will executive produce the US premium cable series, as they did on Game Change.
“We are thrilled to continue our relationship with Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, whose work on their best-selling book Game Change set the bar for political reporting and storytelling inside a presidential campaign,” said HBO Films president Len Amato.
“Reuniting Game Change director and executive producer Jay Roach and Playtone producers Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman with Mark and John for a project based on their upcoming book promises to vividly capture the most unique and impactful event in modern American politics.”
There was no word on what the project will focus on, but the often-ridiculous and bitter battle between pre-election favourite Hilary Clinton and Trump is likely to provide most of the material.
Trump ultimately triumphed in what was one of the most stunning upsets in global political history.
